Dataplace is a national web mapping and data reporting system developed by Knowledgeplex, formerly part of the FannieMae group.

Only a couple of years old now this platform is very sophisicated and powerful while being fairly user friendly. It had national datasets covering social demographics, housing and tax information. The range of variables in the system is enormous and it can be difficult to find what you have in mind but considering the volume of data the design does cope well in helping you get what you need. It allows you to view data, reports and maps for specific areas from state level data down to census tract data in your neighborhood. You can choose to overlay different themes and build your own geography- groups of regions like zipcodes or tracts that represent your community or constituency. You can upload your own data and geocode it within the system and map it, store your favorite maps, create groups to share maps, data and your uplaoded data files.

The site has helpful demos and tutorials and can be used by novice users and professional alike. It is a great resource if you need fast facts for a grant for your community or if you need to build a full community profile.
